Hints and Instructions: Philosopher's Stone Box

General Hints

Hint 1

The goal is to open the puzzle box and reveal its content.

Hint 2

Firstly, you will have to solve a series of puzzles. The aim of the first puzzles will be to detach all 3 acrylic beams which will free the 6 loose shapes below them.

Hint 3

Lastly, you have to solve the puzzle with the 12 sliders to open the puzzle box.

Step 1

Hint 1

On the side with the word “START”, you might have noticed some symbols appearing through the holes. Can you find some of those symbols somewhere else? Also try to look for similarities of the engravings.

Hint 2

On the side with the word “START”, try to find two symbol pairs. Can you use them somewhere else?

Hint 3

Look at the side with the four-leafed clover turn knobs. How can the two symbol pairs be used here?

Hint 4

For-Leafed Clover Puzzle.

If you are unsure how to turn the knobs, this hint might help you.

1. The puzzle consists of two rows of rotating knob pairs.
One is shaped as a four-leafed clover, which we call “clover knob” from now on. The other one has an acrylic arm attached to it, which we call “acrylic knob” from
now on.

2. The clover knobs will only turn if the acrylic tip of the acrylic knob next to it is turned simultaneously through one of the slits of the clover knob.

3. For the acrylic knob to make one full revolution, it must be passed though one of the slits of the clover knob on the neighboring row.

Hint 5 will go into more detail.

Hint 5

In order to turn the acrylic knob one full revolution, the tip of the acrylic has to pass though one of the slits of the clover knob of the neighboring row. This can only be achieved if the clover knob rotates. From Hint 4.2 we know that a clover knob only rotates when the acrylic knob next to it is rotated simultaneously. So, for the acrylic knob to rotate through the clover knob of the neighboring row the acrylic knob next to it also needs to be rotated as well, as described in Hint 4.2.

Hint 6

After arranging the knobs to the right position there is only one more step before the slider in the middle can be released. Can you find the release button?

Step 2

Hint 1

At this point you should have detached the first acrylic beam from the side with the four-leafed clover turn knobs. You should now have in front of you the acrylic beam, two wooden shapes and one wooden slider/bar, which you pulled out after solving the first puzzle.

Look at all parts and see if you find the next clue.

Hint 2

Look at the side with the word “START”. Do you see a clue you have not used yet?

Hint 3

Is there any way you can use the wooden slider/bar from the first puzzle on the side with the word “START”?

Hint 4

Are there any holes shaped like the tip of the wooden slider/bar in which you could insert it?

This will unlock the next acrylic beam.

Step 3

Hint 1

Again, look at all parts you have retrieved until now. Do you find another clue?

Hint 2

Look at the side with the four acrylic sliders. Do the engravings on this side look similar to the engravings on one of the parts you retrieved?

Hint 3

If you found the part with similar engravings, how could you use this tool to decode the correct slider position?

Hint 4

Complete the leaves.

Hint 5

Look at the shape of the tip of the tool. Does this shape match any other shape on the slider puzzle?

Hint 6

Are all acrylic sliders in the right position?

Pull up to release.

Step 4

Hint 1

At this point you should have detached all 3 acrylic beams and the 6 shapes should be freed.

Look at the 6 wooden shapes which were held under the acrylic beams. What clues or similarities can you find?

Hint 2

Can you find the similarities between the 6 shapes and the puzzle box?

Hint 3

Let's build something.

Hint 4

What have you built? Does it look similar to some part of the puzzle box?

Hint 5

Do all engravings of the shape you build face outwards?

Hint 6

Try to match the shape you built exactly with the bottom half
of the puzzle.

Hint 7

Did you notice that each square side on the bottom half of the puzzle box has different shaped teeth?

Hint 8

After aligning the shape you built with the puzzle, can you replicate the engraved patterns of the triangle shaped parts?

Hint 9

A sum of 8 numbers will result in an angle.

Hint 10

Are all sliders and the turn knob on the bottom half moved to the correct position?

Pull to unlock.

Hint 11

Were you able to pull on the rotating slider but the puzzle box did not open yet?

Good news! Only one more move to open! What engravings could give you the last clue?
